Managing Tension in the Shoulder and Neck with this Kriya – Skandha Chakra (Shoulder Rotation)

Published Categorized as Santulan Kriya Yoga

This asana frees the shoulder joints and reduces tension in the shoulder-neck area. People with a strong kyphosis (rounded shoulders) in the back should practice only the backwards rotation.

STEPS

  1.  Sit in a comfortable position.
  2.  Place the fingertips on the shoulder joints.
  3.  Make big circular movements with the elbows such that they touch each other in front.
  4.  First rotate backwards for 10 rounds, then change the direction for the next 10 rounds. Continue breathing in a regular flow.
  5.  Throughout the exercise keep the back and head straight and the fingertips on the shoulders.

Skandha Chakra can be performed by itself anytime in the day to help release tension or be included in your daily Yoga routine. This simple exercise can have far reaching effects for shoulder and neck health, especially for those who read, use screens or type on keyboards for long periods of time.
