My Panchakarma Stay at Atmasantulana Village by Karin Hansvencl

Shortly upon my arrival at Mumbai airport I was picked up by the Santulan car. This was not my first Panchakarma here so I knew the routine. The 2 hour drive brought me to this Vedic style 21st century village. The community setting always feels welcoming. Already, the stress began to fade away.

The very next morning I received instructions about my therapy course. In an introductory discussion with Dr. Bhagyashree, I was asked about my very personal health issues, and based on those, she created my individualised Santulan Panchakarma therapy plan, to begin the following day.

Even during the pandemic, I did not feel worried about traveling to India, especially coming here. If one has basic good health, I feel it is important now to strengthen one’s immune system and energy balance. I find the Santulan Panchakarma to be the best form of maintaining my health. We are living with increasingly unknown external influences, irregular and imbalanced diet and exposure to many stress factors that throw us off balance. Over the years, I have understood the importance of freeing the body of toxins from time to time. The program brings me back on track, physically and mentally.

What did the treatment consist of? Abhyanga body massages, steams, ghee drinking, head and foot massages, face packs, eye basti and a bunch of other treatments. Everyone gets different ones for different reasons, all of which your doctor or therapist can explain if you ask them. The special day is definitely the purging day (Virechan) where everything is gently expelled from your system. Afterwards, I felt as light as a feather and ‘purified’ in the truest sense of the word. I am always impressed by how sensitively the therapies are carried out by the professional staff. They were careful about distancing protocols too. It is also nice that both English and German are spoken here.

And then there is the delicious Ayurvedic food, which is really praised by everyone who comes to stay! It is worth coming for that alone. These carefully planned and authentically prepared meals are a big part of the success of the cure. I would have loved to take some home with me!

A daily yoga program, meditation sessions, cooking demonstrations, expert lectures on Ayurveda and long walks within the beautiful Atmasantulana Village complex have once again made my stay entertaining and very relaxing. I went back to Germany in a great mood and with new positive energy. I already know for certain – I will come again!

An important thing I learned. A Panchakarma cure can, and should, also be done when you are healthy. You need not wait until diseases have already set in. I believe we have no alternative to keeping the body healthy this way in our modern way of life. I think we should also learn this natural way of life with a balanced diet and pass this knowledge on to family and our future generations.
