The Traditional Amla Puja – Saying Thanks to the Herbal Kingdom
Shreeguru Dr. Balaji Tambe stressed on the importance of recognizing the role of the forest and herbal world in human life. Not only are we dependent on them for oxygen and food, they contribute to the water cycle for all life and offer us medicines to enhance our existence. We are truly dependent on them to the extent that human beings would have never come into existence or evolved in this way without their help.

Amla Puja is a traditional ritual worship of the Amla plant in particular and the herbal world in general, as a chance for us to recognize our dependency, offer our gratitude and request the herbal world to continue to favour us while we will do our best to take care of them, celebrated with all the residents and patients staying there at the time. A traditional prasad of the amla fruit (the main base ingredient in the all-important rasayan chyavanprash) along with sugar is offered at the end. Shri Sunil Tambe performed the puja on everyone’s behalf.

When Nature and Divinity come together – The marriage of Tulsi with Shri Krishna

The ancient Vedic principle about Purusha and Prakriti coming together as a play or interaction or leela flows through the entire literature and activities of our cultural lives. One more form of that same great principle is practised through the marriage of the Tulsi plant, foremost among herbs, with Shri Krishna, the complete avatar of Vishnu.

Tulsi is dear to Vishnu and the scriptures say that Vishnu becomes happy when offered a garland of Tulsi. One can read many versions of the story of Tulsi and Shri Krishna, but what is important is to also practise the tradition of the oneness and marriage that strengthens the main principle in our consciousness. The residents of the Atmasantulana Village got together with much joy and preparation for this auspicious yearly marriage between the Jagadguru Shri Krishna, and one of His most ardent devotees, the Tulsi plant.
