Shreeguru Dr. Balaji Tambe explains that in today’s fast paced world, the mind runs at full speed, and the only remedy that can prevent a catastrophe in our lives is to get our mind to become, steady, positive and quiet. In this stotra Swami Vasudevananda Saraswati provides this relief to the devotee’s mind.
The refrain or primary repetitive mantra in this stotra is
Mama chittam stheeri kuru
This means, ‘please make my mind steady’.
Where do we want to run? What will we get by overtaking the other via the wrong lane on the road? Nobody knows the answer to these questions. We simply run along with everyone. While your body has to move fast to achieve this, your mind has to move at double speed.
The body is moving fast for sure, but the mind is moving at an even higher speed. Ayurveda says that this naturally leads to increase in Vata dosha, and consequently in circulatory disturbances. If there is a sudden change in activities, like for e.g. when someone loses their job, or has to leave his or her family etc. the mind becomes confused and can go into a state of depression.
Whenever there is a problem and the mind looks for answers, it needs to come back within to the origin and get the solutions. The remedy invariably is to become quiet.
Swamiji, Pujya Vasudevanand Saraswatiji, has created a stotra to help steady the mind and put it into a positive state. He prays, in the stotra, to the Universal Master, Lord Dattatreya to please help the singer reduce the desperation of the mind. The mind is unable to look at things properly and this causes problems. Therefore, the stotra asks Lord Dattatreya to help the devotee become quiet again.
When the mind is steady, we achieve good health. We can make better decisions. Communication with everyone improves and one can have many friends. This stotra contributes to a life full of health, wealth and satisfaction.
