“Ayurveda is a gift. Its propagation is extremely necessary in our times. The Indian cultural lifestyle is the foundation of a healthy existence” said Dr. Malvika Tambe in Pune on 29 August, at a gathering of women from the Brahman Jagruti Seva Sangh. Her lecture by invitation to the group was focussed on the inadequate attention on women’s health in society.
MD and Chief Physician of Santulan Ayurveda, Dr. Malvika Tambe, stressed on how while performing her traditional roles in the household, the woman of the house was also taking on responsibilities in job’s and businesses over the last couple of generations. Her role and contribution has been increased and in such a case, basic health measures, like adequate sleep, exercise and dietary measures were of utmost importance.
She brought out the connection between traditional rituals performed by women through the year, like Vata Purnima and Tulsi Puja and explained how these had health enhancing features built into them, and were endorsed by the Ayurvedic scriptures too. Thus, the importance of traditions was even more pronounced in a modern lifestyle, and its connection with well-being needed to be understood well.
Dr. Malvika further highlighted her experience of menstrual health being ignored in society. She emphasised that this is not a subject that society can afford to brush under the carpet and requires maximum awareness. She explained how even a small imbalance in menstrual health should be attended to by a doctor and all of these could be managed well for women. Dr. Malvika conducted a Q&A at the end of the lecture.
At the event, Yoga teacher Pranjal Fadnavis was felicitated in the presence of Police Commissioner Pratibha Joshi, the organisation’s district head, Ishani Joshi, Social Activist Ashvini Pande, Seema Datar and Varsha Gadgil.
