Ingredients
- 100 gms Masur Dal
- 100 gms Mung Dal
- 20 gms Chickpea Dal/Chana Dal
- 20 gms Udid Dal
- 1 lt Hot Water
- 40 gms Ghee
- 2 gm Cumin /Jeera (whole grain)
- 2 gm Turmeric Powder / Haldi
- 1 gm Hing / Asafoetida
- 8 pcs Curry Leaves/ Kadhipatta
- 2 gms Red Chili Powder
- 16 gms Ginger Paste
- 7 gms Garlic (crushed)
- 10 gms Lemon Juice
- 17 gms Salt
- 10 gms Coriander – fresh leaves cut finely for garnishing
Preparation:
- Wash all four dals and keep them ready.
- Heat the ghee in a thick-bottomed pot (or pressure cooker). Add the whole grain jeera, hing powder, haldi, kadhipatta, crushed garlic, ginger paste and red chilli powder, one after the other.
- Add all the dals to the pot together and roast for 2-3 min till an aroma develops. Add the hot water and salt. Simmer without a lid till the liquid in the pot reduces to half. Then cover the pot and cook for about 20 min until the dals are soft. (this normally happens in one pressure cooker whistle, or 8 to 10 minutes in a pot on a slow flame.)
